Your Chrome new tab, planted with projects

The cells.garden Chrome extension turns your new tab page into a visual task board and pixel-art garden. Keep your projects nearby while you browse.

Each project is a plant and each task is a cell. Move tasks through the board as you work, and see the plant change with them.

Three ways to keep your tasks in view

These three views share the same garden within the extension, so a task edited in one is updated in the others.

Install and start a project

  1. Open the cells.garden Chrome Web Store listing and choose Add to Chrome.
  2. Open a new tab to see your garden.
  3. Explore the editable Tutorial plant, or add a plant and give its seed a project name or goal.
  4. Add cells to the board. Use Roots for plans, Stem for work in progress and Flowers for finished work.
  5. Pin cells.garden from Chrome’s extensions menu to reach the toolbar popup easily. Open the side panel from the popup when you want to keep the garden beside another page.

Bring your existing garden with you

The extension starts with local storage of its own. To use the same garden as the web app or Obsidian plugin, sign in with the same account. Signing in also enables sharing gardens and plants with other people.

Prefer to keep things local? Use Export or import from the garden menu to move a backup between installations.

What the extension can access

The extension does not read visited pages, browsing history or content from other websites. It requests Chrome’s side-panel permission for that view, and storage permission for the optional Google sign-in handoff. It has no host permissions.

There are no ads or analytics. See the privacy policy and extension source and setup notes.
